The producer price index rose by 3.5% annually in July. This figure sits below the 3.8% forecast from a Reuters poll and marks the smallest increase in three months. While lower global energy prices have provided some relief against the backdrop of international geopolitical friction, the data points to deeper structural fatigue. Manufacturers remain squeezed by the twin pressures of climbing input costs and a sluggish home market.
To counter this momentum loss, Beijing is pivoting toward fiscal intervention. The Politburo signaled a shift in July, promising to prioritize infrastructure spending to stabilize the two-speed economy. Whether these projects can bridge the gap in growth remains uncertain, as the impact of such stimulus typically lags behind the immediate needs of a softening industrial sector.
