Russian overnight strikes kill six across Ukraine

Six people died in Russian strikes across Ukraine overnight, as emergency services scrambled to clear debris in Balakliia and the northern Sumy region. The assaults, involving guided aerial bombs and drones, left dozens wounded, marking another violent chapter in the ongoing conflict that began with the February 2022 invasion.

In Balakliia, rescuers battled localized fires and sifted through the wreckage of residential homes destroyed during the night. Local authorities confirmed three fatalities in the eastern city. Simultaneously, a separate wave of attacks struck the northern Sumy region, claiming the lives of three more individuals and injuring at least 19 others. Ukrainian police reported that an additional 12 people sustained wounds within the city of Sumy specifically, following the deployment of guided aerial bombs.

Violence extended into the southern region of Kherson, where a drone targeted a civilian van, leaving six people wounded. Regional administrators confirmed the incident via official channels. While these strikes underscore the relentless reach of the aerial campaign, both Moscow and Kyiv maintain their official stances denying the deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure.
