Opposition stalls Lok Sabha proceedings demanding accountability from Modi

The Lok Sabha adjourned until 2 PM Wednesday as opposition leaders escalated their protest, refusing to yield until Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah address the chamber regarding alleged police brutality against students at Jantar Mantar and concerns over Ayodhya temple donations.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of insulting parliamentary traditions by avoiding the House. The opposition bloc, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, marched from the Gandhi statue at Prerna Sthal to Parliament’s Makar Dwar to highlight these grievances. Beyond the Jantar Mantar incident, where protesters allegedly faced pellet fire and lathi charges, the opposition is pressing for clarity on the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.

Syed Naseer Hussain and Gaurav Gogoi emphasized that the absence of the Prime Minister and Home Minister signals a lack of accountability on urgent national issues. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra specifically challenged the government to identify the officials who authorized the use of force against young citizens, stating that public office holders must answer for their commands. The opposition insists that a structured debate in Parliament is the only path forward to resolving the current legislative impasse.
