Dimple Yadav Challenges Government Accountability Amid Parliament Unrest

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav challenged the Centre to fulfill its governing responsibilities rather than avoiding confrontation, as opposition leaders intensified their demands for answers regarding police conduct during student protests and alleged financial irregularities concerning donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Dimple Yadav Challenges Government Accountability Amid Parliament Unrest

The political standoff escalated on Tuesday as opposition parties stalled proceedings in both Parliament and the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Yadav argued that the government’s refusal to address concerns regarding the July 20 Jantar Mantar protest—where police allegedly used lathi-charges and pellet guns against demonstrators—demonstrates a failure to engage in democratic debate. While the Rajya Sabha faced repeated adjournments, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge joined the call for a formal statement on the alleged theft of temple funds.

Government officials countered these accusations by labeling the opposition’s behavior as obstructive. UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya insisted the administration remains ready to answer inquiries, provided they follow standard parliamentary procedures. Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana confirmed that while he offered time for the Ayodhya issue to be debated, the opposition appeared intent on disrupting the session regardless of the floor time granted. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath dismissed the corruption allegations entirely, citing an initial Special Investigation Team report that cleared local religious figures of wrongdoing, and accused the Samajwadi Party of operating in an undemocratic manner to derail legislative work.
