Udhayanidhi Stalin Faces Backlash Over Derogatory Remarks

Tamil Nadu political discourse has turned toxic after Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin used a farmer’s protest to make comments targeting actor Trisha and Chief Minister Vijay. The remarks sparked immediate outrage, with TVK spokesperson Americai Narayanan labeling the DMK leader “vulgar nidhi” for his conduct on the public stage.

Narayanan condemned the speech as a shameful misuse of a platform intended for agricultural advocacy. The criticism reached across party lines, as Congress MP Jothimani joined the chorus of disapproval, urging politicians to keep women out of partisan sparring. Jothimani expressed shock that such rhetoric emerged from a self-proclaimed follower of Periyar, emphasizing that women are no longer willing to tolerate public objectification.

Legal consequences followed the incident as Thanjavur police took the DMK leader into custody at his Chennai residence. He faces multiple charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, and the Information Technology Act. While the Madras High Court has since ordered his release following questioning, it mandated that he remain cooperative with ongoing investigations. The DMK maintains that the controversial statements were misinterpreted and were meant as a critique of government water policy rather than a personal slight.
