Russian soldier arrested after deadly shooting spree in Crimea

A Russian soldier opened fire on his own ranks and local civilians in Crimea, leaving four dead and four wounded in a violent outburst on Tuesday. The assailant was taken into custody shortly after the rampage, though authorities have yet to provide a motive for the attack in the militarized region.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-installed governor of Sevastopol, confirmed the incident resulted in the death of one fellow soldier and three civilians. An additional three people remain hospitalized with injuries sustained during the violence. Officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Razvozhayev urged residents to refrain from speculating on the underlying cause of the violence while the investigation proceeds. Crimea, a strategic peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, remains under heavy military presence and tight security controls, making such internal security breaches a rare public acknowledgment by regional leadership.
