DMK leaders rally behind Udhayanidhi Stalin following detention

According to DMK leadership, the controversy over remarks involving actor Trisha is a manufactured narrative designed to undermine the party's recent agitation against the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) administration. Senior leader RS Bharathi further alleged that the arrest constitutes contempt of court, noting that the detention occurred after the prohibited 12 p.m. threshold.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was taken from his Chennai residence and transported to Thanjavur for questioning, remains booked under multiple sections of the BNS, the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, and the IT Act. He has dismissed the entire episode as a "comedy," arguing that his comments at the protest were intentionally distorted through editing to suggest an insult where he was merely referencing water distribution. While TVK figures like MLA Rhevanth Charan have slammed the remarks as "disgusting" and emblematic of a decline in political standards, the DMK maintains that its leader never mentioned the actor by name and that the government is weaponizing the judicial system to target political rivals.
