The controversy ignited when Stalin paused his speech to address crowd members chanting the actor's name, stating the water should reach "there"—a remark he later insisted referred strictly to the Cauvery river. Despite the denial from DMK MP TR Baalu, who dismissed the accusations as false, the fallout has been swift. The women's wing of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam filed a formal police complaint, and authorities subsequently detained Stalin at his Chennai residence following the registration of an FIR.
