Dharmshila Gupta Accuses Congress of Fabricating Wrestlers' Case

BJP MP Dharmshila Gupta has dismissed the sexual harassment allegations against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh as a politically motivated fabrication. Her defense follows the August 3 acquittal by the Rouse Avenue Court, which cleared the former MP of charges brought by multiple women wrestlers.

Dharmshila Gupta Accuses Congress of Fabricating Wrestlers' Case

Gupta accused the Congress party of orchestrating baseless claims to damage political opponents rather than addressing substantive public welfare issues. She urged the opposition to shift focus toward national development, claiming that the legal challenge against Singh was part of a larger, well-planned conspiracy. Her comments arrived shortly after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the verdict, arguing that the judicial outcome failed to deliver justice to the athletes.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh described the court's decision as a vindication of his character, asserting that his image remained untarnished throughout the proceedings. His counsel, Rajiv Mohan, noted that the court found the accusations unsupported by evidence, specifically highlighting that the investigation placed Singh away from the scene of one of the alleged incidents. The Delhi Police had originally filed the chargesheet in 2023, encompassing allegations of sexual harassment, assault, and criminal intimidation.
