Naked Jumper Survives Leap from Brooklyn Bridge

A 44-year-old man plunged into the East River on Sunday afternoon after scaling the north tower of the Brooklyn Bridge. Despite the height of the drop and a preceding standoff with police, the individual survived the fall and was recovered by harbor units before being transported to a local hospital.

The incident began around 2:30 p.m. when the man climbed the Manhattan-side framework of the bridge. Before stripping off his clothes, he secured several flags to the structure, drawing a crowd of onlookers who captured the scene on their mobile devices. NYPD Emergency Service Unit officers reached the tower and attempted to negotiate a peaceful descent, but the man bypassed their efforts by jumping into the water below.

Video footage of the event shows the man holding a dark garment above his head during the descent, though investigators have not confirmed whether this was an intentional attempt to break his fall. The NYPD Harbor Unit reached the man quickly, pulling him from the river before paramedics rushed him to NYC Health + Hospitals Bellevue. Medical staff have since reported that he remains in stable condition. Police have not yet identified the man or revealed the significance of the flags he left on the bridge, and the investigation into the circumstances of the jump continues.
