Opposition INDIA bloc aligns strategy for Monsoon session

Conflict brewed in Parliament House on Monday as leaders of the Opposition INDIA bloc convened to finalize their floor strategy. With the Monsoon Session underway, the group prepared to challenge the government on high-stakes issues, specifically targeting alleged financial irregularities within the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

The meeting gathered key figures including Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and senior representatives from the Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party. Their primary objective involves forcing a legislative debate on the management of Ram Mandir donations, a move they argue is essential for public accountability.

Congress Rajya Sabha members Randeep Singh Surjewala and Renuka Chowdhury spearheaded the push by filing formal notices under Rule 267 and Adjournment Motion protocols. They are demanding the suspension of regular business to address calls for an independent audit of the Trust’s accounts. Chowdhury’s motion specifically requests a detailed government statement regarding the regulatory framework and oversight mechanisms currently applied to the institution. As the Monsoon Session progresses, these efforts signal a deepening confrontation between the opposition's demand for transparency and the government's push to prioritize its own legislative agenda.
