The attackers arrived at 11 p.m. and maintained control of the village until 3 a.m. Sunday. Among the casualties, six members of a single family perished when their house was set ablaze. Resident Auwal Hassan reported that beyond the loss of life and the kidnapping of civilians, the gunmen rustled a significant amount of livestock before fleeing the area. Four other residents sustained injuries during the raid.
Sokoto police spokesperson Ahmed Rufai confirmed the force is currently investigating the incident. This surge in violence follows a similar attack just one week prior in neighboring Zamfara state, where bandits killed at least 24 farmers. The region remains plagued by heavily armed gangs who frequently target rural communities for ransom, theft, and kidnapping, highlighting a deepening security crisis in the northwest.
