Three dead in central Moscow bombing

A security guard’s intervention at a high-end restaurant in Moscow turned fatal Saturday night when a woman carrying a homemade bomb detonated the device near the entrance. The explosion, which occurred at the Stalin-era Kudrinkskaya Square complex, claimed the lives of the woman, the guard, and a restaurant patron.

Emergency services reported at least 21 people injured by the blast, which struck shortly before 20:00 local time. The venue, Balzi Rossi, was hosting a private event at the time. Heavily armed law enforcement cordoned off the area as investigators began reviewing the site, though officials have yet to identify the victims or name potential suspects behind the attack.

Conflicting accounts regarding the motive and mechanics of the strike have emerged. While the Anti-Terrorism Committee suggested the woman was attempting to enter the premises, the Kommersant newspaper reported that the device may have been triggered remotely. Sources cited by the publication hypothesized that the woman might have been an unwitting courier for an explosive intended to target guests on the restaurant's outdoor terrace. The incident follows heightened security protocols implemented by the FSB earlier this year, aimed at protecting high-profile officials amid ongoing regional hostilities.
