Rosatom civilian vessel sinks in Black Sea following drone strike

The vessel, which was transporting construction materials and frozen food, was intercepted during its transit. Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev confirmed the total loss of the ship, labeling the strike an act of piracy. In response to the sinking, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy identified the vessel as the Yanina, a container ship sailing under the Russian flag. Zelenskiy credited the precision of Ukrainian Defense Forces for the operation, highlighting the ship's capacity to transport significant cargo volumes.

This confrontation underscores a broader escalation in maritime hostilities. Both Moscow and Kyiv have intensified their focus on logistics chains, frequently targeting commercial vessels they accuse of supporting the opposing side's war effort.
