Gujarat consolidates local governance with new Unified Planning Committees

The previous structure required various groups—including the Taluka Planning Committee and the ATVT Executive Planning Committee—to hold separate meetings for decentralized planning. This overlap forced officials and representatives to attend redundant sessions, stalling decision-making and delaying infrastructure projects. Under the new mandate, a single UTPC will oversee integrated planning for sectors ranging from healthcare and education to agriculture and road construction.

Each committee will be led by the President of the Taluka Panchayat as Chairperson, with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate serving as Co-Chairperson and the Taluka Development Officer acting as Member Secretary. The board also incorporates local MPs, MLAs, and departmental heads from irrigation and public works to ensure a unified approach to regional needs. By consolidating these functions, the state aims to improve oversight and ensure that government welfare schemes reach citizens with greater efficiency, reinforcing the broader administrative goal of a more transparent and responsive governance model.
