BJP demands AAP accountability following Tahir Hussain life sentence

The Karkardooma Court ruling on July 31 concluded that Hussain and four co-accused—Nazim, Qasim, Javed, and Anas—were criminally responsible for the violence. While the court acknowledged the heinous nature of the murder, it stopped short of the death penalty, citing that the threshold for "beyond reformation" was not met. The conviction rested on vicarious liability, marking a significant legal development in the aftermath of the city's February 2020 unrest.

Following the verdict, BJP leaders intensified their rhetoric against the Arvind Kejriwal-led party. BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh framed the judgment as a warning against using vote-bank politics to shield individuals accused of orchestrating violence. Party leader Gaurav Vallabh echoed these sentiments, accusing the AAP of fostering anarchy and questioning the leadership’s silence on their historical association with Hussain. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Shikha Roy characterized the sentence as long-awaited closure for the victims' families, asserting that the party had previously been dismissed for highlighting the criminal elements within the AAP ranks.
