Pima County Sheriff releases full ransom notes in Guthrie kidnapping

The Pima County Sheriff's Department published the documents on Friday, hoping the specific syntax and phrasing might help the public identify the masked individual captured on doorbell surveillance footage. The first communication, sent on February 2, threatened to raise the ransom to $6 million if the initial deadline passed, chillingly noting that Guthrie’s life was in her family’s hands. To prove the kidnappers had access to the home, the note referenced a destroyed backyard floodlight and a wristwatch left at the foot of her bed.

A second message, received just four days later, took a contradictory turn. The authors claimed they had underestimated the victim's fragile health and stated she had passed away shortly after the abduction, allegedly due to a heart-related issue. Savannah Guthrie, the NBC news anchor, has since issued public pleas for the kidnappers to disclose the location of her mother’s remains, following the discovery of blood on the front porch of the residence last January. Investigators are now tracking potential behavioral shifts in the suspect, specifically looking for individuals who altered their appearance or routines immediately following the February 1 disappearance.
