Israeli forces seal Tal village as settler march sparks clashes

More than 100 Israeli settlers marched toward the West Bank village of Tal on Friday, while military forces blocked entrances, fired on residents and arrested at least three Palestinians. The operation followed a week of escalating violence in the region, leaving the community under a persistent state of lockdown.

The military presence in Tal, located near Nablus, has intensified into daily raids and mass detentions. Munther Shtayya, vice-president of the local council, reports that at least 24 villagers remain in custody. Residents describe a pattern of intimidation where soldiers use live ammunition and tear gas to clear the path for settlers, effectively preventing families from protecting their homes and land.

During the march, witnesses observed settlers stealing goods from Palestinian buildings and vandalizing a local cemetery. While the Israeli military stated its purpose was to disperse the crowd, soldiers were seen clearing roads and firing smoke bombs at vehicles approaching the march. Abdulrahman Zaidan, a local resident, stated that soldiers consistently ignore settler actions, leaving the community to face the incursions alone. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz have signaled plans to expand these operations further, despite international condemnation of settlement expansion in the occupied territory.
