Jammu Protest Highlights Escalating Violence in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir

Members of the PoJK Displaced Community gathered in Jammu on Friday to condemn the violent crackdown on protesters in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The demonstration follows reports of fatal shootings at D-Chowk in Rawalakot, where security forces have been accused of using lethal force against civilians demanding basic rights.

Rajeev Chunni, leader of the displaced refugees, framed the current unrest as a grim validation of historical warnings. Drawing parallels to the 1947 Partition, he stated that the community had long cautioned against trusting Islamabad, asserting that the state is now revealing its true nature through the current suppression of the local population. Chunni described the loss of life as unfortunate, urging the international community to focus on the deteriorating human rights conditions in the region.

The unrest has intensified following a call by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee for broader solidarity, including international protests in cities like São Paulo. Meanwhile, political friction continues to mount; the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has labeled recent local elections fraudulent and criticized the state’s violent response to dissent. Reports from Rawalakot and Mirpur indicate multiple casualties, leading the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan to demand an independent inquiry. Former Prime Minister Sardar Qayyum Niazi has further alleged that authorities are not only killing demonstrators but are actively concealing evidence of these deaths, leaving the region in a state of unprecedented instability.
