Hamas Links Gaza Disarmament to Israeli Withdrawal Commitments

A senior Hamas official has rejected the immediate disarmament plan announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, insisting that peace remains contingent on Israel fulfilling prior obligations. Ghazi Hamad stated that the militant group will not surrender its weapons until Israel honors the terms negotiated last year in Sharm el-Sheikh.

The proposed framework, which Trump touted on his Truth Social platform as a major milestone for the region, requires the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions. However, Hamad clarified that the path forward hinges on Israel first ending its military operations, pulling forces back to their October positions, and significantly increasing humanitarian aid flow into the enclave. Only after these conditions are met would Hamas consider transferring its arsenal to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a newly formed technocratic body.

This position creates an immediate diplomatic deadlock. While Hamas demands a return to previous status quo markers, an Israeli official countered on Thursday that the state will refuse to withdraw its forces behind the designated Yellow Line until the Gaza Strip is fully demilitarized and Hamas has relinquished its military capabilities.
