Lok Sabha Adjourned as Opposition Demands Amit Shah’s Response

Chaos erupted at Makar Dwar on Friday morning as INDIA bloc lawmakers brandished placards questioning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s absence from Parliament. The protest, centered on recent police actions against students demonstrating over the 2026 NEET paper leak, forced Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the Lok Sabha until noon.

Lok Sabha Adjourned as Opposition Demands Amit Shah’s Response

Speaker Om Birla struggled to restore order as Opposition members disrupted the proceedings with sustained sloganeering. Before the adjournment, the Speaker issued a stern warning to the assembly, admonishing members for undermining the dignity of the Parliament complex. He specifically noted that even Priyanka Gandhi had submitted questions for the session, emphasizing that the House should remain a space for legislative work rather than partisan disruption.

The tension stems from the July 20 police crackdown on demonstrators at Jantar Mantar, who were rallying under the Cockroach Janata Party banner to protest the NEET exam irregularities. While the Opposition seeks accountability from the Home Ministry, the government is simultaneously championing its legislative response to exam fraud. Amit Shah recently hailed the passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, as a milestone for student meritocracy. He asserted that the new law, which introduces stringent penalties for tampering with public exams, will serve as a necessary deterrent to protect the aspirations of the nation’s youth.
