Moscow and Kyiv Exchange Heavy Drone Volleys

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that 340 Ukrainian drones targeted the capital's outskirts in a single day, forcing air defense units into a massive interception effort. While the majority were neutralized before reaching the city, the scale of the assault marks a significant escalation in the ongoing aerial conflict.

The surge in activity follows a strategic shift by Ukraine toward targeting Russian energy infrastructure. By focusing on facilities like the Salavat petrochemical complex in the Urals and the Afipsky refinery in southern Russia, Kyiv aims to disrupt fuel supplies and tighten domestic economic pressure. These strikes have contributed to gasoline shortages, turning the regional oil industry into a primary theater of the war.

Russia responded with its fifth major bombardment of Kyiv this month. The retaliatory strikes utilized a mix of missiles and drones, causing damage to 16 locations across the city, including a local school and a commercial business. Emergency services worked to extinguish multiple fires ignited by the debris, highlighting the persistent danger facing civilians as the cross-border drone warfare continues to intensify.
