Beijing Purges Politburo Member Ma Xingrui Over Corruption

The Communist Party has expelled Ma Xingrui, a former Politburo member and senior official, following a sweeping investigation into systemic graft. His removal marks the third high-level purge since 2025, underscoring the relentless pace of President Xi Jinping’s campaign to purge the party’s elite ranks of perceived disloyalty and greed.

Beijing Purges Politburo Member Ma Xingrui Over Corruption

State media outlet Xinhua detailed a litany of charges against Ma, who previously served as deputy head of the central rural work leading group. Investigators concluded he leveraged his position to influence official appointments and engaged in illicit transactions involving sex and money. Beyond these allegations, the party accused him of facilitating discounted property purchases for family members and accepting illegal gifts to enrich his inner circle.

This case of 'family corruption' highlights the specific patterns of abuse identified by party disciplinary committees. By allowing relatives to siphon influence for personal gain, Ma violated the strict code of conduct mandated for high-ranking cadres. The disciplinary action follows a similar probe launched in January against Zhang Youxia, signaling that no position, regardless of its seniority, remains immune to the current crackdown.
