Ukraine Secures Political Deal for Domestic Patriot Missile Production

Political consensus has been reached between Kyiv and Washington to authorize the domestic production of Patriot PAC-3 interceptors, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The agreement aims to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses as the country faces persistent ballistic missile barrages targeting its urban centers.

Following a summit in Turkey and direct discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, Zelenskiy confirmed that while the political hurdles for licensing have been cleared, technical teams must now finalize the transition to local manufacturing. This move targets a crucial gap in Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, as the Patriot system remains one of the few platforms effective against incoming Russian ballistic threats.

Beyond missiles, the dialogue with the U.S. has expanded into potential joint drone production. While no formal contract exists for drones yet, Ukraine is already providing the U.S. with various aerial and marine drone prototypes for testing purposes. Simultaneously, Zelenskiy is coordinating with European allies to develop a more cost-effective, mass-produced anti-missile system, with a follow-up meeting scheduled in France.

Relations with the White House appear to have stabilized following a productive exchange between the leaders. Despite the stalled progress on wider peace negotiations and Russia’s continued territorial demands in Donetsk, Zelenskiy characterized the recent diplomatic engagement as constructive. The immediate priority remains the arrival of a new supply package from the U.S. expected in the coming days, intended to sustain operations until domestic production lines are fully operational.
