The Royal Navy leads this shift, transitioning toward a hybrid fleet that blends traditional warships with uncrewed systems. Plans center on the production of six Common Combat Vessels, designed specifically to command and coordinate autonomous drones. This integration aims to extend the reach and precision of naval patrols while minimizing human exposure in high-risk zones.
Technological modernization extends across the Army and Air Force, where the focus shifts toward pairing crewed aircraft with unmanned wingmen. The military intends to field 24 armed drones to support Apache helicopter squadrons by the end of the decade. Simultaneously, the Air Force will deploy autonomous fighter jets to work alongside human pilots, marking a permanent departure from purely conventional aerial combat tactics.
