Karnataka Court Summons Congress Leaders Over RSS Defamation Allegations

A Bengaluru special court has ordered Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge and Youth Congress leader Mohammed Haris Nalapad to appear following a private complaint. The legal action centers on accusations that the two politicians made defamatory remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, sparking a fresh clash over political rhetoric and accountability.

The XLII Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, presiding over the court for MPs and MLAs, took formal cognizance of the complaint filed by Tejas Gowda. The proceedings invoke Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing friction between the Congress party and the organization. Gowda pursued the case after consulting with his legal counsel, citing personal distress caused by the public statements.

In response to the summons, Nalapad stated his commitment to the judicial process while asserting that freedom of speech remains a fundamental constitutional right. Kharge, meanwhile, has doubled down on his public critiques, continuing to question the transparency and internal governance of the RSS. This legal entanglement underscores a deepening divide, as the courtroom becomes the latest venue for a long-standing ideological battle.
