Cross-Border Airstrikes Leave Dozens Dead in Afghanistan

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan reports that at least 28 civilians were killed and 49 wounded during a series of Pakistani airstrikes along the border. These operations, aimed at dismantling alleged militant strongholds, have sparked a sharp dispute over casualty counts and further destabilized an already volatile regional frontier.

Pakistan security forces maintain that the strikes successfully neutralized 29 militants, a claim that stands in direct opposition to Afghan authorities who report 38 civilian deaths resulting from the bombardment. This surge in violence follows a pattern of intermittent clashes that escalated throughout February, signaling a significant breakdown in cross-border security.

Simultaneously, Pakistani ground forces confirmed the elimination of four Taliban fighters within their own territory. Islamabad continues to assert that the Afghan Taliban provides safe harbor to militants, an allegation consistently rejected by officials in Kabul. As both sides trade accusations and intensify military posturing, the risk of sustained confrontation along the border remains high.
