Akhilesh Yadav Alleges Voter Intimidation via Electoral Roll Revision

With the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections on the horizon, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has launched a sharp critique against the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, characterizing the bureaucratic process as a targeted effort to intimidate voters and challenge the citizenship status of even prominent residents.

Yadav vowed to mobilize public awareness campaigns to counter what he describes as systematic anomalies within the revision framework. His accusations come as the state prepares for a high-stakes electoral battle between the Samajwadi Party and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Navdeep Rinwa, the Chief Election Officer for Uttar Pradesh, confirmed that the scale of the adjustment is significant, noting that over 2.89 crore names were omitted from the draft voter list following the enumeration phase of the revision. This massive winnowing of the rolls has intensified political friction, with opposition leaders framing the administrative hurdles as a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise segments of the electorate.
