Ayodhya Temple Donation Scandal Sparks Political Fallout

Eight individuals face judicial remand following a major embezzlement investigation at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, where staff members allegedly siphoned off devotee donations. The fallout has reached the highest levels of the temple trust, triggering the sudden resignation of two senior trustees amid a deepening political crisis.

Ayodhya Temple Donation Scandal Sparks Political Fallout

General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra stepped down from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, citing moral responsibility as the scandal dominated national headlines. Their exit follows an FIR filed on June 25, which details a coordinated scheme involving both temple staff and bank employees to misappropriate funds. Authorities in Ayodhya have already recovered Rs 79.85 lakh from those detained, with a court order keeping the suspects in custody until June 29.

The incident has provided fresh ammunition for opposition leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal, who have labeled the mismanagement a profound betrayal of public trust. While the Uttar Pradesh government insists on a zero-tolerance policy regarding the abuse of religious institutions, critics argue that the scale of the theft exposes deep systemic vulnerabilities. As the investigation moves forward, the pressure mounts on the administration to implement rigorous oversight to prevent further corruption in the management of the shrine's finances.
