BJP Alleges Political Manipulation in Himachal Pradesh Local Elections

BJP state leadership has accused the Himachal Pradesh government of weaponizing the legal system to coerce local representatives. Rajeev Bindal and Jai Ram Thakur claim officials are stalling Zila Parishad and municipal elections to facilitate horse-trading, effectively undermining the democratic mandate of elected councils across the state.

The allegations suggest that Congress-led authorities are targeting BJP-backed councillors with fabricated cases while pressuring members of Block Development Committees to switch allegiances. According to Bindal and Thakur, the administration is deliberately withholding election schedules for key positions, including Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons, to consolidate power through administrative delays.

In response to what they describe as a direct assault on democratic processes, the BJP has scheduled a series of demonstrations. The party plans to stage protests at Deputy Commissioners’ offices on June 27, demanding the immediate release of a formal election timeline. Party leaders have cautioned that if the government continues to obstruct the electoral process, the BJP will escalate its response into a statewide agitation.
