Volodymyr Zelenskiy has repeatedly signaled alarm over the deepening integration between the two leaders, suggesting that the Kremlin is actively coercing Minsk into a more direct combat role. Both Russian and Belarusian officials dismiss these claims, instead framing the current friction as a consequence of provocations orchestrated by Kyiv and its Western allies.
While Minsk maintains that its forces remain outside the active theater of war, the border regions have become a logistical hub for Russian operations. Belarus has already hosted the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons and permitted the unrestricted movement of Russian equipment across its territory. Lukashenko has previously issued public warnings to Ukrainian leadership, insisting that his government will remain non-belligerent provided Belarus is not pulled into the fray.
