Rajasthan and Haryana to Sign Landmark Water-Sharing Agreement

A 265-kilometre pipeline from the Hathnikund Barrage stands at the center of a new interstate pact, as Rajasthan prepares to formalize a historic agreement with Haryana. Facilitated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the deal aims to secure a permanent supply of Yamuna water for the parched state.

Rajasthan and Haryana to Sign Landmark Water-Sharing Agreement

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is set to finalize the Memorandum of Understanding on June 29, 2026, marking a shift in how the region manages its strained hydrological resources. Beyond the immediate acquisition of water rights, the strategy incorporates the development of the Renukaji, Lakhwar, and Kishau dams, alongside the newly branded Ram Jal Setu Link Project.

While these engineering feats dominate the headlines, the state government is simultaneously pushing for localized conservation efforts. By restoring traditional water sources and fostering community-led management, officials hope to build long-term resilience against chronic scarcity. This dual-track approach seeks to stabilize Rajasthan's water table while integrating the state into a more collaborative regional infrastructure network.
