The memorandum, submitted via the District Magistrate, highlights a growing friction following violent clashes between Nihang Sikhs and local residents in Karnaprayag and Nagarasu. Congress representatives condemned the administration’s handling of the situation, specifically citing reports of stone-pelting and the alleged hostage-taking at the Nagarasu Gurdwara. They are calling for strict legal consequences for those involved in the disturbances rather than a shift in investigative authority.
Former Kedarnath MLA Manoj Rawat characterized the government’s response as inadequate, claiming the administration has failed to regulate the movement of armed individuals along vital pilgrimage routes. Beyond the immediate clashes, the party is pushing for land allocation for the ancient Laxman Temple and a broader inquiry into alleged conspiracies threatening the Char Dham Yatra. Rawat emphasized that their opposition is directed at administrative failures and state-favored institutions, dismissing any claims that the party’s stance is rooted in anti-Sikh sentiment.
