VD Satheesan Occupies Cliff House to Launch New Age Kerala Reforms

The keys to the Cliff House in Thiruvananthapuram have officially changed hands. Following his May 18 inauguration as the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala, VD Satheesan has moved into the state residence, signaling the start of a legislative tenure defined by the United Democratic Front’s decisive return to power.

The UDF’s electoral surge, which secured 102 of 140 Assembly seats, ended a decade-long wait for the coalition. Satheesan now moves to implement his 'New Age Kerala' agenda, a platform centered on a revised state budget that prioritizes health, education, and social welfare alongside infrastructure expansion.

Serving concurrently as Finance Minister, Satheesan has moved to dismantle the fiscal strategies of the previous Left Democratic Front administration. He alleges the prior government engaged in deceptive accounting to mask a deepening debt crisis. Beyond fiscal policy, his administration has launched 'Operation Toofan,' an aggressive initiative aimed at dismantling narcotics trafficking networks. The campaign seeks to establish active intelligence-sharing partnerships with neighboring states to suppress regional drug flow.
