Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov signaled skepticism regarding recent signals from the G7, pointing to the contradictory nature of Washington’s current approach. While Trump reportedly encouraged a path toward peace during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Moscow remains wary of the intent behind such overtures, viewing them through the lens of past frustrations. Lavrov specifically highlighted the stalled talks in Anchorage, Alaska, characterizing those discussions as a potential stalling tactic designed to buy time for bolstering Ukrainian military capabilities.
Beyond the battlefield, the path to restored cooperation remains blocked by systemic issues. Lavrov emphasized that persistent U.S. sanctions, unresolved property disputes, and the lack of direct air travel continue to define the bilateral standoff. Despite these hurdles, the Russian side maintains an interest in direct dialogue with American counterparts, aiming to move past the current uncertainty surrounding U.S. military support for Kyiv and reach a definitive understanding of Washington’s long-term objectives.
