Spokesperson Tommy Pigott confirmed the meeting serves as the inaugural stop of Rubio’s regional tour, intended to reassure partners of Washington’s commitment to Gulf stability. Central to the dialogue was President Trump’s recent understanding with Iran, which seeks to guarantee secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Rubio’s presence underscores a strategic effort to align Gulf leadership with emerging US policies regarding Iranian influence.
Speaking to reporters before the sessions, Rubio framed the path to regional peace as dependent on curbing the activities of Iranian proxies. While addressing the broader security landscape, he explicitly separated the Gulf agenda from ongoing diplomatic efforts in Lebanon. Regarding the latter, Rubio stressed a commitment to Lebanese sovereignty and stated that negotiations with the government in Beirut remain a distinct, independent track.
