The student organization insists that the core provisions of the January 27, 2020 agreement remain trapped in bureaucratic limbo. At the heart of the frustration are unfulfilled promises to expand the Bodoland Territorial Council, secure legislative safeguards for tribal land, and formalize institutional enhancements that were intended to grant the region greater autonomy. ABSU officials maintain that these measures are non-negotiable for the long-term stability of the community.
To break the current deadlock, the union is calling for the immediate passage of the Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. Failure to secure these protections, they argue, leaves the Bodo people no choice but to reconsider their political strategy. Should the central and state governments continue to delay, the union is prepared to pivot from advocating for development to a renewed constitutional demand for a fully independent Bodoland state.
