Congress Moves to Halt Iran Conflict as Trump Approval Hits Low

The U.S. Senate voted 50-48 on Tuesday to pass a war powers resolution directing President Donald Trump to end military action against Iran, marking a significant legislative rebuke of the administration as public support for the conflict wanes and the president’s approval rating slides to 34%.

The bipartisan vote, which follows a similar House measure, underscores mounting frustration within Congress regarding the ongoing hostilities that began in late February. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll highlights the political cost of the campaign, revealing that only one in four Americans views the war as worth its expense, while a majority expresses doubt that a truce with Tehran can be sustained.

Beyond the legislative pushback, the administration faces a complex domestic landscape. On the legal front, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in favor of ExxonMobil, clearing a path for U.S. companies to pursue compensation for property seized by Cuba’s former government. Simultaneously, the court narrowed the scope of the Alien Tort Statute, ending a long-standing lawsuit that accused Cisco Systems of aiding religious persecution in China. Meanwhile, manufacturing activity surged in June to its highest level since 2022, though factory employment figures plummeted to a six-year low amid rising operating costs.
