The Reuters/Ipsos poll, which concluded Monday, highlights a deep skepticism toward the recent preliminary deal signed by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. While the agreement aims to reopen frozen shipping lanes and ease economic pressure, 63% of respondents doubt it will secure lasting peace. Public frustration is compounded by economic strain; gasoline prices remain elevated, and Trump’s approval rating on the cost of living has plummeted to 22%, trailing the marks set by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Political fallout from the war extends beyond foreign policy. Trump’s aggressive stance on deportations and ongoing economic volatility have alienated independent voters. Currently, only 17% of independent registered voters express support for Republican congressional candidates, compared to 34% favoring Democrats. With only 37% of the public approving of his handling of immigration, the administration faces significant headwinds as the party fights to maintain its majorities this November.
