Appeals Court Backs Expanded Fast-Track Deportations

A federal appeals court panel ruled 2-1 on Tuesday to authorize the expansion of expedited removal procedures for migrants residing deep within the United States. The decision overturns an August 2025 lower-court injunction that had previously halted the administration's attempt to streamline deportations for individuals living far from the border.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued the ruling, effectively dismantling the legal barrier that prevented the government from applying fast-track removal processes to migrants outside of immediate border zones. This shift grants federal authorities broader latitude to bypass standard immigration court proceedings for those apprehended in the interior of the country. By overturning the lower court's block, the appellate judges have cleared the path for the administration to implement its policy regarding the expedited removal of non-citizens who lack legal status.
