Oman and Iran Seek Maritime Stability in Strait of Hormuz

Navigating the geopolitical volatility of the Strait of Hormuz, Oman and Iran have committed to establishing a joint working group aimed at streamlining maritime services and cost structures. This diplomatic pivot seeks to stabilize a vital global shipping artery currently strained by regional blockades and escalating international tensions.

The initiative follows a memorandum of understanding signed last week, which invites other Gulf states to participate in the oversight of transit protocols. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and Iranian representatives emphasized that the framework must uphold international maritime law while strictly respecting the territorial integrity of all bordering nations.

Since February, the waterway has become a flashpoint for supply chain disruptions linked to the broader conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. By coordinating navigation management, Tehran and Muscat intend to insulate the strait from further spillover, prioritizing the security of commercial shipping lanes against the backdrop of ongoing port restrictions.
