The initiative follows a memorandum of understanding signed last week, which invites other Gulf states to participate in the oversight of transit protocols. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and Iranian representatives emphasized that the framework must uphold international maritime law while strictly respecting the territorial integrity of all bordering nations.
Since February, the waterway has become a flashpoint for supply chain disruptions linked to the broader conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. By coordinating navigation management, Tehran and Muscat intend to insulate the strait from further spillover, prioritizing the security of commercial shipping lanes against the backdrop of ongoing port restrictions.
