Aaditya Thackeray targets Eknath Shinde over legislative silence

Aaditya Thackeray launched a scathing attack on Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, accusing him of systematically dodging legislative accountability. The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader questioned why Shinde retains ministerial portfolios while consistently delegating the responsibility of answering assembly questions to junior ministers, effectively shielding himself from public scrutiny.

Thackeray, who disparagingly labeled the Chief Minister 'Fakenath' Minde, argued that the refusal to address the house directly undermines the transparency of the administration. He drew a sharp comparison to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who personally handles inquiries related to his own departments. By failing to perform these core duties, Thackeray suggested that Shinde prioritizes siphoning funds and managing corruption over serving the public interest, questioning the necessity of keeping the portfolios at all.

This confrontation coincides with a significant realignment within the Shiv Sena. Six Lok Sabha MPs from the UBT faction have defected to the Shinde-led camp, a move the ruling faction frames as a commitment to the development of their constituencies and the preservation of Bal Thackeray’s original ideology. While defecting MP Sanjay Uttamrao Deshmukh dismissed claims of financial inducements or pressure from central investigative agencies, the UBT faction maintains that the exodus is a calculated betrayal. With the UBT faction’s parliamentary presence reduced to three members, the political friction in Maharashtra shows no signs of abating as both sides compete for legitimacy.
