The controversy traces back to a Ukrainian military unit’s choice of name, which references a nationalist group linked to World War II-era massacres of Poles. This historical friction escalated when Polish President Karol Nawrocki revoked Zelenskiy’s Order of the White Eagle, prompting a retaliatory wave of resignations from Ukrainian officials who returned their own Polish decorations. Despite the strained atmosphere, the conference remains a critical venue for securing infrastructure support. Svyrydenko stated that the delegation’s objective is to finalize agreements aimed at bolstering energy resilience against Russian airstrikes. Opposition lawmaker Iryna Geraschenko urged both sides to prioritize bilateral normalcy, noting that Poland remains a vital logistics hub for Ukraine’s survival.
