Madhya Pradesh Claims Broad Public Backing for Uniform Civil Code

Over 90 percent of citizens participating in state-wide consultations have signaled support for the Uniform Civil Code, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Tuesday. The findings arrive as the state government finalizes draft legislation following extensive outreach efforts across all districts.

During a Council of Ministers meeting, Yadav detailed a consultation process that included a major state-level summit in Bhopal on June 22. Officials engaged with religious leaders, political parties, and government commissions to gauge sentiment. The administration leveraged the Samagra portal to reach beneficiaries, sending 34.9 million SMS invitations for feedback. According to the government, these efforts yielded over 900,000 suggestions, with notable support surfacing even among minority community members. The Law Department is now collaborating with a dedicated committee to codify these insights into a formal bill.

Beyond the legislative agenda, the Chief Minister outlined a series of administrative milestones. Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve was recently recognized as the nation's premier wildlife destination at the Tourism Survey and Awards 2026, an accolade attributed to the region’s conservation management. Furthermore, the state marked its progress in water sustainability, securing the third position nationally in the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Campaign. Yadav also confirmed the successful disbursement of 1.64 billion rupees to 8.1 million farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, while announcing that the state will observe a 'Guru Purnima Fortnight' of educational and cultural events starting July 15.
