Wang Yi Proposes BRICS Alliance on Strategic Mineral Security

Amid shifting global supply chains, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged BRICS nations to forge a unified front on strategic mineral resources. Speaking on Tuesday, the top diplomat framed the initiative as a necessary pillar for economic stability, positioning the bloc to command greater leverage over critical raw materials.

The proposal aims to insulate member states from external market volatility and technological dependencies. Wang Yi emphasized that the alliance should move beyond simple trade relations to establish a collaborative framework for resource management, effectively challenging the current dominance of Western-led supply networks.

Beyond mineral security, the Minister signaled an expansion of the bloc's mandate to address high-stakes global challenges, ranging from public health threats like Ebola to the complex governance of artificial intelligence. By aligning on these diverse issues, China seeks to solidify BRICS as a primary architect of international cooperation, distinct from existing G7-aligned structures.
