The Israeli military confirmed it is investigating the incident. The violence disrupts a period of relative calm following an interim agreement signed last week between the United States and Iran, which mandated a total cessation of hostilities. Negotiators from Pakistan and Qatar recently facilitated talks in Switzerland, resulting in the creation of a de-confliction cell designed to monitor and enforce the ceasefire.
Since Hezbollah initiated strikes on March 2, the conflict has exacted a heavy toll on the region. According to the Lebanese health ministry, more than 4,100 people have been killed, including 773 women, children, and healthcare workers. Beyond the immediate casualties, the fighting has displaced approximately 1.2 million Lebanese residents. Israel reports 36 deaths, consisting of 32 soldiers and four civilians, as the international community watches to see if the new de-confliction mechanism can prevent further escalation.
