Radhakrishnan described Mookerjee as an eminent academician and resolute patriot who fearlessly championed the nation's cohesion. Prime Minister Modi echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that Mookerjee’s life remains a model of public courage and unwavering dedication to national interests. The BJP commemorates this day to reflect on the legacy of the man who sought to integrate India’s political landscape during the post-independence era.

Born into a prominent political lineage, Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951, the ideological precursor to the modern-day BJP. His career included serving as Minister for Industry and Supply under Jawaharlal Nehru, though he eventually broke away to lead opposition efforts. A vocal critic of Article 370, his political stance against the measure remained a cornerstone of his party's agenda until its repeal in 2019. In the national capital, figures including Harsh Malhotra and Rekha Gupta joined the tributes, offering floral garlands to mark the anniversary of his 1953 passing in Kashmir.
