Khurshid Signals Potential for Congress-SP Alliance in 2027

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid believes a robust partnership between his party and the Samajwadi Party could reshape the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh for the 2027 assembly elections. While acknowledging the need for significant groundwork, he argues that genuine commitment could turn the tide against the incumbent BJP.

The two parties have a mixed history of cooperation, having contested the 2017 assembly polls unsuccessfully before finding success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In the most recent national contest, the Samajwadi Party secured 37 seats, while Congress added six, providing a strategic foundation for future collaboration. Khurshid emphasized that success depends on equal participation and a cohesive strategy rather than mere seat-sharing arrangements.

Beyond electoral planning, Khurshid addressed allegations of misappropriation regarding donations made to the Ram Temple. He described the controversy as a profound tragedy and urged the government to pursue those responsible, framing the issue as a litmus test for the administration's stated faith. According to Khurshid, the Supreme Court’s resolution of the temple issue was meant to be final, and any financial irregularities surrounding the site demand immediate accountability.
