Managed by EIB Global, the initiative focuses on deep structural renovations across 203,000 square metres of medical space. Planned upgrades include thermal insulation, the installation of photovoltaic solar panels, and modernized heating and ventilation systems. These improvements are designed to lower operational costs, allowing funds previously spent on utilities to be redirected toward direct patient care and medical services. The renovations are scheduled to continue through July 2028, impacting the daily working conditions of more than 10,000 healthcare staff.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that the investment translates European partnership into tangible improvements for public services, while Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu noted that upgrading large-scale infrastructure is a primary lever for strengthening national energy security. EU Ambassador Iwona Piórko and EIB Vice-President Karl Nehammer emphasized that beyond energy savings, the project directly enhances the quality of medical environments, ensuring reliable heating and safer facilities for patients. By modernizing these buildings, Moldova aims to meet its climate commitments while bolstering the resilience of its healthcare network.
