Giriraj Singh claims BJP brought 'second independence' to West Bengal

Union Minister Giriraj Singh has framed the rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal as a liberation movement, accusing the Trinamool Congress of systemic looting and alleging that prior Congress administrations abandoned the state to the enduring consequences of partition-era communal violence.

Singh’s comments follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address in Hooghly’s Tarakeswar district, where the Prime Minister emphasized the historical role of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. Modi argued that Mukherjee’s opposition to incorporating Bengal into Pakistan during the 1947 partition was a defining moment for the state that had been deliberately obscured by subsequent political agendas. According to Modi, the Bengali-Hindu Homeland Movement was essential in preventing the state from being absorbed during the legislative assembly vote on the Mountbatten Plan.

Building on this narrative, Singh targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, characterizing her public image of austerity as a facade for a widespread corruption network. He claimed that the current exposure of internal TMC fund disputes reveals a regime of institutionalized theft. While the BJP leadership seeks to reframe West Bengal’s identity around the June 20 foundation day, they simultaneously demand a reckoning for the state’s political trajectory since independence, positioning themselves as the architects of a necessary historical and administrative correction.
